Account Directors report directly into Senior Account Directors. As with Business Senior AD’s they have a key role within the agency to ensure that the business delivers exceptional work and profitable growth. SBM’s are a pivotal link between managers and senior execs, clients and agency. Their experience and knowledge to date will enable them to take a more proactive role in leading their client’s accounts. Additionally this experience will enable them to develop clients’ planning strategies with greater autonomy and to drive the agency's wider agenda.

AD’s are expected to act as an effective coach and mentor as the agency seek to retain and develop junior talent. They will broaden their knowledge of marketing and firmly establish relationships with clients based on knowledge of their business and their own expertise in media.

The Role

• Supports the Senior Account Director in the effective day to day running of their account group
• Be an effective coach and mentor to your team
• Lead the strategy development and annual planning process for your client group working collaboratively with the wider team
• Be a confident leader and contributor at client meetings
• Be seen to actively contribute to wider agency initiatives and information sharing
• Lead the negotiation with media owners ensuring you deliver the very best value to your clients
• Demonstrate the experience required to effectively influence your client’s business by recommending potential solutions to business challenges
• Deliver high quality output both internally and externally based on insight and attention to detail
• Be seen as the first point of contact for clients on a day to day basis

Client Facing

• Lead by example when maintaining and developing effective client relationships
• Deliver clients’ needs in an insightful, thoughtful and timely manner through planning and meeting deadlines
• Demonstrate the ability to resolve client conflict and quickly identify any potential threats
• Confidently chair a meeting that has a clear agenda and agreed actions both internally and with clients
• Demonstrate to clients the use of fact based analysis and how this may affect their overall business dynamics
• Manage the flow of information to clients at the appropriate level
• Be able to write and deliver presentations that have a strong and compelling narrative

Media Owner & Supplier Facing

• Begin to develop senior relationships with Media Owners
• Lead effective negotiation with media owners and suppliers, leveraging senior relationships
• Resolve any conflict with Media Owners and Suppliers when service levels aren’t being met
• Work with Media Owners to deliver incremental income

Company Facing

• Ensuring regular day to day work is delivered
• Be an effective coach and mentor and demonstrate the ability to identify any skills gaps and areas for development
• Be able to provide constructive feedback regarding job performance
• Be a team player by actively promote team achievements internally
• Develop strong working relationships with colleagues and promoting a positive team spirit
• Demonstrate an innate curiosity and a willingness to share ideas, thoughts and insights with the team

Key Deliverables

• Add value over and above the “business as usual”
• Be able to push back and challenge when the need arises
• Own the management of the budgeting process across a portfolio of clients
• Provide accurate billing forecasts
• Identify any potential threats and review with the AD before they become an issue
• Support the AD in the delivery of organic income
• Demonstrate an understanding of the balance between agency and client needs
• Identify opportunities to maximise agency revenue
• Be able to deliver a 30 second elevator pitch on all agency products and services
• Actively contribute in pitches
• Deliver at least one new agency initiative – social, insight or process
• Contribute to awards entries and case studies
• Foster client relationship and chemistry
• Identify areas to improve efficiencies in ways or working
• Regularly provide intelligence relevant to your clients business
• Update client status reports
• Timesheets updated weekly
• Delegate work to the junior team and manage the quality of their work accordingly
• Ensure all projects are of top quality and are delivered on time
• Deliver new media ideas to clients outside of the brief
• Ensure inter-department work is of appropriate quality and be prepared to challenge if not
• Update IPA CPD log

Essential Skills and Attitudes

• Ability to work autonomously and self disciplined
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Continual client contact with regular meetings to address any concerns and always on approach to managing client expectations
• When required, provide team with assistance in planning and reporting
• Experience on both performance and brand clients ranging from charity to retail
• Excellent knowledge of all media channels, specifically press, inserts, outdoor, radio and TV
• Commercially and creatively minded
• Have completed relevant industry courses through (proven through CPD log)
• Be able to delegate and manage not only a direct team but also team members from specialist teams e.g. digital, AV, Analytics
• Knowledgeable and passionate about the clients business, with ambition to know more about the clients business than the client themselves
• Experience in media negotiation
• Proactively address client challenges to provide solutions ahead of client brief
• Work with clients to provide briefs to the team
• Ability to work closely with other agencies e.g. creative, to provide an all agency approach to client briefs
