This means as a media salesperson you can expect to be selling space across newspapers, magazines, outdoor billboards, radio, television, online websites, events and more. Being in media sales is an entrepreneurial job where you have the ability to build your own patch with your own clients and of course benefit both financially and on a person level. Landing a huge sales deal will make you and your team feel great. Media Sales is an industry where people work hard and play hard. Typical Graduate Roles:
Sales Executive - This is the most common entry-level role. It usually involves being on the phone calling potential clients and agency contacts to try and get convince them to advertise for your company. There will also be some face to face meetings.
Account Planner - This is an admin-based role where you will help with the planning of media campaigns. This is a much less hard-sell than some of the other roles and can lead to project management type roles in the future Account Executive - this role focuses on helping account managers look after their clients and ensure everything with the account is running smoothly Telesales/Classified - You will be expected to make from 100 calls a day upwards. It’s a great chance to earn very decent commission .
You should have an interest in advertising and how it works. You should be familiar with brands; what are brands like, what are they trying to achieve and what their marketing objectives are. Having an understanding and appreciation of modern day culture and society will also be highly favourable.
Despite the view of the stereotypical sales person, you do not have to possess the ability to sell ice to Eskimos to have a successful career in media sales. In fact a candidate who is hard-working, self-motivated, confident, a good listener, and intelligent is exactly what makes a great and successful sales person. The ability to work under pressure and to hit targets is also a key part of sales. The great thing about this is the harder you work, the more you are rewarded with commission.
